The WOW book club is a group that meets once a month to discuss literature that can help us to grow in the grace and knowledge of Christ. Literature can so often be a bridge to help us to start sharing that knowledge of God with those around us who are much more open to discussing A good book rather than THE “Good Book”! Not everyone you meet may be responsive to a question about if they know Christ or attend church, but lots of people will respond to the question of “Have you read a good book lately?! Here’s one that I really enjoyed…”.

The theme verse for our group is Proverbs 2:1-6 My son, if you accept my words and store up my commands within you, turning your ear to wisdom and applying your heart to understanding, and if you call out for insight and cry aloud for understanding, and if you look for it as for silver and search for it as for hidden treasure, then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God. For the Lord gives wisdom and from his mouth come knowledge and understanding. This verse talks about how we will find knowledge and understanding if we call out to him and search for it like we would a treasure. And there are so many hidden treasures in books! In our discussions, we turn our ears to His wisdom and find His truth through the literature that we read.

We read many types of books- both Christian and secular, fiction and non-fiction, short and long! Some of the books we’ve discussed in the past are:

• The Hiding Place- Corrie ten Boom
• I Dared to Call Him Father- Bilquis Sheikah
• Unafraid- Francine Rivers
• The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe- C.S. Lewis

We’d love to have you join our group! If you’ve never been a part of a book club before now, don’t hesitate to join us- we have lots of fun! We meet once a month for coffee, breakfast, and lively discussion, usually on Saturday mornings. Each book and date is decided at the previous month’s meeting, and we love suggestions on what to read next! Hope to see you there!
